Alpha Hybrid The Becoming is a novella of approximately 55 pages (13,700 words). It is the first book in a 4-novella paranormal romance series.

Abby's life is just beginning. It is the time of her college graduation, and she has become an accomplished chef and a lovely young woman. Little does she know, she is about to face a whole new phase of her life—and an entirely different “becoming”.

When tragedy strikes, Abby is driven to return to her hometown of Salem, Massachusetts, despite her avoiding the area due to a childhood accident that has left her scarred. Rising up from the tragedy, Abby finds herself faced with compelling reasons to settle down permanently in Salem. As if this decision weren't overwhelming enough, Abby finds herself having memory lapses, fighting off the strange mayor of the town, and continuing a confusing romance with Jake, a love she had left behind when she went off to college.
As the pieces begin to come together, things only become more confusing and challenging for Abby. She discovers a supernatural side of herself she didn't even believe in, and she must learn to adapt quickly when a great evil threatens Salem. Can Abby harness her newly-found abilities while navigating the extreme tides of change and mysterious forces that are overrunning her life?

This book had a few good things about it, and a few things that could use work. Although I am a fan of fantasy, a number of shortcomings left me luke-warm, and I won't be buying the sequel.

What I consider good things about the book:
--clear progression of events: the story moved briskly, without dragging, through the plot
--clearly defined characters: I knew who they were, I didn't get them confused
--some magic: magic is always cool
--editing: lack of typos and grammatical errors: thank you!

What I consider things that need work:
--exclamation points: this author apparently does not know that each author is alloted 1-2 exclamation points per LIFETIME. This author used up hers along with those of about 20 other authors in this one book. Exclamation points do not help to add excitement or tension; they are a cheap attempt at it. Your writing should provide all the excitement, drama, and tension needed on it's own. Never use them.
--telling instead of showing: a lot of intensifier words (really, superb, awesome, etc) were used instead of poetic, delicate, or gritty descriptions. The main protagonist's feelings and emotions were flat out told to the audience instead of being revealed through her words and actions.
--campy phrasing and cliches: much of the writing feel juvenile, like the author was just trying to be cute and hip instead of immersing the audience in the world and letting us live inside the characters and experience things with them. Maybe some people like that style, but not me.
--rushing: the end was rushed, in fact the whole story feels rather rushed. It became predictable and was resolved in just a few paragraphs. There was great potential in this plot to add intricacy and intrigue on the part of the antagonist and ratchet up the tension, but that never happened.

So, overall, not bad for a start, but this author has a lot of growing to do to make her work outstanding.

Alpha Hybrid Book 1 Wolf Shifter Romance Cavern of Light Series eBook Larissa Ladd Reviews

Pretty good book. I wish the romance would have been played up a little more so there would be moments when we could see them falling in love. It was just a synopses of a couple of weeks of dating and then "I'm in love". Besides that, I thought the book was good and well worth a read.
This was a different twist on the werewolf tale. The first were-witch. Although it was a decent tale, it felt too rushed and you really didnt get a good background of the characters at all.
I really enjoyed this book. Abby is such a skeptic, that she can't see what's in front her. This makes for a very good intro.
Abby had everything in place to succeed until . . .

When the world upends on her, she doesn't know what to do with her . . ., the strange occurrences, and finally . . .

Will she make it a year or will she be kicked out on her butt to boot with all the news???

Enjoy!! 😉
Another one that was okay but needed to be longer to honestly flesh out the characters. We're hurled into it with very little to introduce us to the characters or their circumstances. Then once we get settled in and just start to get to know what's going on, the story's done. We're expected to buy the next book to find out just what the devil's going to happen with our leading people. That's kinda rude I think.
Although a very fast read, it was well written and definitely has me hooked to continue with the series. I would've given it a 5 out of 5 had it contained a bit more detail and background, but there was still a lot packed into this short story.
If you love the supernatural and its ties to Salem, MA then I think you'll enjoy this story. It truly adds a different twist to the typical tales of werewolves and witches. I actually appreciate the accuracy of some of the Wiccan references, which is hard to come by.
This was more of a single chapter or a rough draft to the book then an actual book. Would love to see this reworked and made a tad more smoother for the reader. I would have given this book a 5 star rating if it did not feel like it was so short or the ending so abruptly brought to an end. It is well written, has a powerful punch to the story line, but it lacks a smooth transition from one scene to another. One min, she is in college then next she is reaching the city where her aunt and uncle lived.
